    XCOM XCOM_PS3_BOX-tempboxart_160w

    Also on: PC, X360
    Genre: First-Person Shooter
    Publisher: 2K Games
    Developer: 2K Marin

    Summary

A re-imagining of one of gaming's most storied and beloved franchises, XCOM combines the strategic core of the groundbreaking franchise with a suspense-filled narrative and distills it into a tense and unique first-person shooter experience. The game depicts humanity's struggle against an unknown enemy, putting players directly into the shoes of an FBI agent tasked with identifying and eliminating the growing threat. True to the roots of the franchise, players will be placed in charge of overcoming high-stake odds through risky strategic gambits coupled with heart-stopping combat experiences that pit human ingenuity -- and frailty -- against a foe beyond comprehension.
By setting the game in a first-person perspective, players will be able to feel the tension and fear that comes with combating a faceless enemy that is violently probing and plotting its way into our world.

    Features

    • Experience XCOM from an Immersive New Perspective: Step into the shoes of FBI agent William Carter and confront firsthand the horror, tension and fear of the unknown.
    • Call the Shots and Bear the Consequences: The enemy threat is far-reaching and indiscriminate. As the man in charge, you will be tasked with deciding where and when to respond to the disturbances across the United States, and how best to use the limited resources at your disposal. Your choices and efforts have a direct involvement in the creation of new tools and technology that will aid in your battle to save mankind. But make a bad decision, and the consequences will be felt most by those you have failed.
    • Struggle Against a Faceless Enemy: Knowledge is power. Confront the enemy in the field, and conduct research and investigation to learn more about them. Command your science and engineering teams to build tools to exploit their weaknesses as you struggle to gain the upper hand against the growing threat.
    • No Two Experiences Are the Same: The player-driven, yet narrative-rich campaign progresses according to your choices and performance, while dynamic, unscripted conditions and emergent combat systems ensure that no two field operations play out the same way.

The game's completely different to its predecessor. It's like a Bioshock with XCOM written over it. I'm personally fine with the old enemies being absent (new stuff to kill/be killed by is always good), but what really turns me away is the huge steps back that are being taken in terms of gameplay. No UFOs, no interception of UFOs, no crash or landing missions, no tanks, no jet packs, no customization of your base, no manufacturing, and no resources to sell for cash.
All you do is shoot aliens and that's pretty much it.
Maybe that's good enough for Bioshock, but it's not good enough for X-COM.
    My 2 cents.

Ive never played the original game so i cant really comment on how it transfers over to the remake of the game but i like the look of this game. Yeh def has that bioshock feel to it but yeh im looking forward to this game im sure there will be a few more twist and turns in the game and not just be a straight out FPS game

Yeah. I was a bit disappointed when I heard that Xcom was going to be a first person shooter. I really hope that some of those elements are still here.

I'll still give this a good long look though.

Shall we say a heartily welcome back to Casamyr cheers
Hope you had a wonderful camping trip!
Anyways back to the point, if you guys ( well this is more directed to Casamyr) played UFO: Enemy Unknown, which is the first released in the X-COM series. You'll be happy to know that on 5 January, 2012 Eurogamer revealed that a Firaxis Games (which made the civilisation and Sid Meier's series) developed remake of the original UFO: Enemy Unknown titled XCOM: Enemy Unknown was in development. The game will keep the strategy elements of the original game, including real-time strategic view, turn-based combat and destructible tactical environments.

Badish news for peeps who were interested in this game - 2k Marin push pushed the release date back until 2013 for the XCOM shooter, instead concentrating on the Firaxis reboot to relaunch the series and then follow up with the shooter in the next financial year.

Either that or Q&A testing has revealed some major issues with the game that needs fixing. Smile

I'm sure I saw that trailer over two years ago o_O Not sure if it sounds worthwhile to be honest but it's a nice concept. Is the original worth playing? You guys have made it sound good =P

The original looks terrible, it's not a FPS, rather a tactical shooter. But a huge time suck.

It looks terrible compared to today's game as it was made 16 years ago and only the most hardcore fan still plays it today.
