    Map Breakdowns Empty Map Breakdowns

Post  Bowlington on Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:54 am

This is a placeholder for an upcoming clan exclusive feature, in this thread the maps for Battlefield 3 are going to be dissected and commented on. Things like chokepoints, routes to objectives, different types and positions of cover, recommended tactics for different locations and situations, and more are to be expected. Each post is going to cover a different map with visual aides to help explain concepts and points. My goal is that this will be helpful for people to overcome a specific problem while playing a map, or to help players out with general tactics.

Bear with me for the time being as it will take some time to populate this list, I'm going to shoot for a map a day but that may change.

Please do not respond to this post directly until I have it up and running so as not to disrupt the formatting.

    Map Breakdowns Empty Grand Bazaar

Post  Bowlington on Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:55 am

    Title: Grand Bazaar
    Vehicles?: Yes (LAV/Humvee, or BMP/Vodnik)
Range: Generally close to medium(Shotguns, SMGs, PDWS, Assault rifles recommended)
    Rocket Effectiveness on personnel: Good
    Rocket Effectiveness on Vehicles: Good
Number of Flags in Conquest: 3

In a Nutshell: Grand Bazaar is a fast paced, tense map. Effectively controlling the map requires good knowledge of the many back alleys that spiderweb throughout. The Bazaar is also home to one of the most contested pieces of real estate in the game: the Conquest objective B. Holding B is essential to victory, however this is not easy because B is a magnet for rocket fire and frag rounds.

    Map Breakdowns Empty Operation Metro

Post  Bowlington on Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:59 am

    Title: Operation Metro
    Vehicles?: No
Range: Extreme close to Medium(Shotguns, SMGs, PDWs, recommended)
    Rocket Effectiveness on personnel: Good
    Rocket Effectiveness on Vehicles: N/A
Number of Flags in Conquest: 3

In a Nutshell: Operation Metro is the map that most people are familiar with, it has tight corridors as well as indoor and outdoor expanses. Shotguns and PDWs are effective in the corridors but should you find your self outside the main, building carbines and sniper rifles are going to be a better choice. This is a map that you will be in danger of getting spawn trapped if you are not careful.

    Map Breakdowns Empty Kharg Island

Post  Bowlington on Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:01 am

    Title: Kharg Island
    Vehicles?: Yes(F18/AH-1Z Viper/M1 Abrams/Jeep/Rhib boat, or Flanker/Havoc/T-90/Jeep/Rhib boat)
    Range: Medium to Long
    Rocket Effectiveness on personnel: Average
    Rocket Effectiveness on Vehicles: Average
Number of Flags in Conquest: 4

In a Nutshell: Kharg Island is an expansive map with several choices for transportation. This is a good map to practice bombing runs in either a chopper or jet due to the linear setup of the roads and objectives. Kharg Island is also an excellent map to command a tank for the same reason. Because it is an island, it is surrounded by water and this can be used to your advantage by flanking the back 2 objectives by using a Rhib boat. The objectives themselves are surrounded by multi-level buildings and ridges, so snipers are an issue here. Also take note of the comm antenna at the top of the mountain, its a sniper hotspot.

    Map Breakdowns Empty Noshahr Canals

Post  Bowlington on Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:01 am

    Title: Noshahr Canals
    Vehicles?: Yes(Littlebird/LAV/APC, or Littlebird/T-90/Vodnik)
    Range: Close to Medium
    Rocket Effectiveness on personnel: Average
    Rocket Effectiveness on Vehicles: Good
Number of Flags in Conquest: 3

In a Nutshell: Noshahr Canals is a medium sized map not including water. The close proximity of objectives A and C to cargo containers and buildings respectively provide very little extra space turning these fights into close quarters. Objective B is in an open loading dock with little to no cover available so securing this objective first is essential. It is possible to control all 3 objectives by using a T-90 if all three objectives are taken quickly and the tank is positioned on the road that runs horizontally between all three objectives.

    Map Breakdowns Empty Operation Firestorm

Post  Bowlington on Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:02 am

    Title: Operation Firestorm
    Vehicles?: Yes(Thunderbolt/AH-1Z Viper/Venom/M1 Abrams/Jeep, or Frogfoot/Havoc/Kasatka/T-90/Jeep)
    Range:Medium to Extreme Long
    Rocket Effectiveness on personnel: Low
    Rocket Effectiveness on Vehicles: Average
Number of Flags in Conquest: 3

In a Nutshell: Operation Firestorm is an expansive map with a very open airspace and several high spots for sniper use. This is a good map to practice with aircraft because of the contrast between the color of the ground and rocks and the color of the tanks and personnel fighting on it, becoming easier to spot. Be sure to watch the tops of nearby buildings and the oil refinery as a whole while on foot, snipers love these locations. It is also a good idea while in a tank to control one of the two roads that extend down either side of the map as this can allow friendlies to push though to the next objective uninhibited.
